- Description: On June 1, 1909, the Woolf spouses departed from Kansas City bound for the Ozark Mountains, accompanied by their dog and a horse-drawn cart. Their luggage included a stove, a tent, blankets, spare parts, and food. Their first outdoor adventure proved to be a discovery that changed their lives. During the journey, Dwight also composed the song 'Take a Walk,' which later achieved some success. Driven by the desire to return to nature, they set out again from Kansas City on May 2, 1910. They reached New York City after 14 weeks of walking, on August 15. Returning by train to Kansas City, they set out again on October 15 for an 8'000-mile journey through Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Washington, D.C., New England, California, and Utah. It was commonly believed that their last trip was the longest ever undertaken by a couple. The journey they embarked on the following year, in 1911, kept them away from home until November 1915 and allowed them to walk 20'000 miles. In addition to numerous photographs, they published the book entitled "Tramping and Camping by the Walking Woolfs"

The 1908 New York to Paris Race was an automobile competition consisting of drivers attempting to travel from New York to Paris. This was a considerable challenge given the state of automobile technology and road infrastructure at the time. Only three of six contestants completed the course. The winner was the American team, driving a 1907 Thomas Flyer.
- Description: Published posthumously in 1768 and translated into Italian in 1813, "A Sentimental Journey through France and Italy" by Laurence Sterne is a classic of travel literature that breaks with the conventions of the Grand Tour. The protagonist, Yorick, sets out on a journey from northern France to Italy with the aim not of documenting places and monuments, but of exploring emotions, encounters, and states of mind. The journey begins in Calais and continues through Paris and Lyon, ending in Turin, without ever reaching Rome, which remains an unfulfilled destination. Yorick travels alone, often using modest means, and lingers on small daily events, favoring the inner and subjective dimension of the experience

Yorick's journey starts in Calais, where he meets a monk who begs for donations to his convent. Yorick initially refuses to give him anything, but later regrets his decision. He and the monk exchange their snuff-boxes. He buys a chaise to continue his journey. The next town he visits is Montreuil, where he hires a servant to accompany him on his journey, a young man named La Fleur.
