- Description: Karl Bushby is an English former paratrooper, author and walking adventurer. After serving 11 years with the 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, he conceived the Goliath Expedition - an attempt to become the first person to walk an unbroken path around the world without using any form of transport, including across water. On 1 November 1998 he departed from Punta Arenas, Chile, heading northward. His route has taken him through South America, the Darién Gap, Central America, the United States and Alaska, across the Bering Strait on foot with French adventurer Dimitri Kieffer in March 2006 - the first crossing on foot from Alaska to Siberia - then through Russia, Mongolia, China, Central Asia and the Caucasus. The expedition has been repeatedly interrupted by visa complications, financial difficulties, and the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in approximately 13 years of active walking over 26 years on the road. In October 2024, unable to transit Iran, he completed the crossing of the Caspian Sea by swimming 288 km with Angela Maxwell and two professional Azerbaijani swimmers over 32 days. By April 2025 he had covered over 47,000 km across four continents, 25 countries, six deserts and seven mountain ranges, and was walking through Turkey toward his final destination of Hull, England
