- Description: Nicolas Bouvier, a Swiss traveler and writer, is celebrated for his travel narratives that blend deep cultural insights with captivating storytelling. His most famous journey, undertaken in the 1950s with friend and artist Thierry Vernet, took them from Europe to Asia in a Fiat Topolino. This adventure is immortalized in his acclaimed book "The Way of the World", where he poetically and accurately describes the challenges, discoveries, and human interactions encountered along the way. Bouvier's journey stands out for its ability to capture the essence of places and people, turning every experience into an internal journey as much as a physical exploration of the world

I like the old farm story about the difference in being involved and being committed. When it comes to making breakfast, the chicken is involved, but the hog is committed. Just like that old hog, I am committed. But I’m committed to Kentucky. -Joe Bowen

- Description: Peter Bray, the first to kayak across the Atlantic from west to east without tropical trade winds or the safety of the east-to-west route's warmer waters, achieved a notable feat in ocean kayaking. His initial attempt in 2000 nearly ended in tragedy when he launched from Newfoundland with 100 days of food, only to encounter a malfunctioning electronic pumping system and rough seas, leading to a near-death experience and a four-month recovery. A year later, Bray embarked again with a technologically advanced kayak, facing numerous challenges including storms, equipment failures, and a close encounter with a killer whale. Despite these obstacles, Bray successfully completed the 76-day journey, landing in Ireland. His achievement, while technologically aided, stands as a significant accomplishment in transoceanic kayaking
