Nel 1872 Jules Verne pubblica un romanzo che ancora oggi, oltre 140 anni dopo la sua prima pubblicazione, tutti conoscono e apprezzano per la sua forza evocativa: Le tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours. La storia narra le vicende di Phileas Fogg, un ricco galantuomo londinese abitudinario, sedentario e riservato. Il 2 ottobre 1872 Fogg lascia la sua residenza di Saville Row e si reca al Reform Club. Come ogni giorno, alle undici e mezzo raggiunge la sede del club dopo aver percorso 575 passi.
