- Description: In 1923, former tennis champion Alain Gerbault embarked on the first solo transatlantic crossing from east to west aboard the "Firecrest". It took him 101 days to cover the route from Gibraltar to New York. Although he was not the first to accomplish this feat, he was welcomed with full honors and received the "Blue Water Medal" from the Cruising Club of America. In 1924, he set off again for the South Seas: Bermuda, the Panama Canal, the Galapagos, Tahiti, Fiji, Réunion, St. Helena, Cape Verde, the Azores, eventually reaching Le Havre in 1929, thus completing his circumnavigation of the globe

- Description: John Gill was a British motorcycle traveller from Bradford, Yorkshire. Between 1928 and 1930 he completed a round-the-world journey of approximately 37,000 km (23,000 miles) on an HRD-Noxal sidecar outfit. Walter Stephens, from London, rode pillion from England to Australia, where he abandoned the venture. The Australian engineer Phil Irving then joined Gill as pillion rider for the return leg to England. Back in Britain, Irving went on to become the engineering partner of Vincent motorcycles. During the journey Gill was imprisoned for 14 days in Constantinople over a passport dispute and was shot at by Bedouins while crossing the Syrian desert
