Stearns Clancy Carl (w3162)
- Description: Carl Stearns Clancy was an American advertising copywriter, writer, film director and producer. In early October 1912 he sailed from New York to Dublin with his friend Walter Rendell Storey, each riding a 1912 Henderson Four - a 934 cc, 7 hp, four-cylinder motorcycle sponsored by the Henderson Motorcycle Company of Detroit. After touring Ireland, both crossed to Glasgow; Storey returned home from Paris, while Clancy continued alone. His route covered Ireland, Scotland, continental Europe, North Africa (Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Egypt), Asia (the Middle East, India, China, Japan) and North America, arriving back in New York in August 1913 after ten months and approximately 18,000 miles (28,968 km). He is credited as one of the first people to circumnavigate the globe by motorcycle. He financed part of the journey by writing a serialised column for The Bicycling World and Motorcycle Review
