In 1887, she became the first woman to cycle across ten Alpine passes in Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. Their travels are documented in several books, including A Canterbury Pilgrimage (1885), an illustrated travelogue describing their bicycle journey from London to Canterbury, following the route of the pilgrims in Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales. The book combines personal narrative with descriptions of the English countryside, architecture, and the people encountered along the way, offering a late nineteenth-century perspective on a historic route
