- Description: Arthur Charles Jeston Richardson was the first to completely and solo circumnavigate Australia's coast in 1899, detailing his journey in the book titled “Story of a Remarkable Ride” published in 1900. He left Perth on June 5th heading north, following a clockwise route with a load of 25 pounds (11.4 kg) and a pistol. Rain slowed his advance in Western Australia, and in the North of the continent, where he was forced to push his bicycle. He returned to Perth on February 4th, 1900, after a journey of 11’500 miles (18’507 km), earning media accolades for this 253-day feat at an average of 42 miles (73 km) per day
