Description: Forrest Gump is the protagonist of the eponymous 1994 film: the character runs across the United States from coast to coast: "That day, I don't know why, but I decided to go for a run. So I ran to the end of the road, and once there, I thought about running to the end of the town, and once there, I thought about running through Greenbow County. Then I said to myself, since I've come this far, might as well run through the beautiful state of Alabama, so I did. I ran across the entire state of Alabama, and I don't know why I kept going. I ran to the ocean, and once there, I said to myself, since I've come this far, might as well turn around and keep running. When I got to another ocean, I said to myself, since I've come this far, might as well turn around again and keep running; when I was tired, I slept, when I was hungry, I ate, when I had to... well, I did it!"

Millionaire Forrest Gump Continues Legendary Run Across America. For over three years, Forrest Gump, co-owner of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. of nearby Bayou La Batre, has been criss-crossing the United States in a phenomenal feat of endurance. Gump apparently felt like running one day and kept going until he ran into an ocean. At that point, he turned around and ran back until he ran into the other ocean. This sojourn has continued for the last three years, one month, and two days.
Somewhat of a national folk hero, Gump has gathered followers along his trek. When asked the purpose of his odyssey, Gump says simply, “to give people hope”. Bumper stickers and t-shirts emblazed with witticisms Gump has uttered along the way have become watchwords of today’s society. Asked how long he plans to keep on running, Gump replied, “I eat when I’m hungry, I stop when I’m tired and I’ll run until it’s time to go home”. His hair and beard now quite long, Forrest Gump serves as a symbol of all that is simple and good in America.
