Asseyev Mikhail (w1662)

  • Description: In April 1889, Mikhail Asseyev embarked on a journey from Lubny, Russia, to the newly-constructed Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. He journeyed with two mares, Diana, an Anglo-Don, and Vlaga, a Novorossisski. Asseyev traveled "à la Turkmène" – meaning he rode one horse in the morning and the other in the afternoon, with the led horse being completely unburdened. For, as all Long Riders understand, the horse's enemy is not the miles but the weight. Using this method, Asseyev averaged 100 kilometers a day. After traveling more than 3'000 kilometers, upon arriving at the Eiffel Tower with his two mares, the Society for the Protection of Animals awarded him a special gold medal, as his horses were in excellent condition
