- Description: Beard learned to ride a motorcycle at the age of 16. She began her journey in 1982, after completing her third year of architecture studies, using a BMW R60/6 motorcycle. Before setting off, she added soft panniers, a tank bag, and an additional bag attached to the passenger seat. She started from New York City, United States, after shipping her bike from the United Kingdom. From there, she motorcycled to Canada and Mexico before returning to the US and shipping her bike to Sydney, Australia. In Sydney, she spent eleven months working as an architect before motorcycling across Australia. In Townsville, Queensland, she had an accident that left her hospitalized for two weeks. Afterwards, she traveled to Singapore, where she spent 6 weeks replacing stolen documents and gear; then she traveled into Asia. In Thailand, she collided with a dog and recuperated with a local family. At the time of the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the entire state of Punjab was closed. Beard forged the necessary permit to get out of the Punjab region and traveled to Pakistan before returning to Europe via Turkey. She arrived in the United Kingdom in 1984, after traveling 35'000 miles (56'000 km). In doing so, she became the first Englishwoman to motorcycle around the world. When Beard returned from the trip, there was little interest in what she had achieved, as she stated in an interview: "After I got back and nobody was interested in what I'd done, I just shoved everything into the back of the garage. I just kind of moved on with my life." Her 2017 autobiography Lone Rider tells her adventure

In fact, I wasn’t even sure why I was doing this trip, other than as a distraction from the heartbreak of being dumped by Alex, the guy I thought was going to be the love of my life. That, and a yearning for some adventure and unpredictability in my life after three years spent in stuffy classrooms studying for an architecture degree, had brought me to this place.

So the thought of me, a seventeen-year-old girl who’d ventured only as far as the south coast, now riding around the world on her own? Ridiculous. I wondered if it was the fact that I was female. My friends weren’t chauvinists, but 1970s biker culture was quite primitive.

- Description: Ana Beker, an Argentine born to Lithuanian immigrants and a lifelong equestrian, was inspired by a lecture from Aimé Felix Tschiffely, who famously rode from Buenos Aires to New York. Tschiffely, known as "Chifeli," detailed his 10'000-mile journey through varied terrains in the New World with his horses Mancha and Gato. Beker, after meeting Tschiffely, shared her own ambitious plan to ride from Argentina to Ottawa, Canada, covering 17'000 miles. Despite Tschiffely's skepticism about her success due to her gender, Beker remained undaunted. However, her journey faced tragedy when her two horses, Principe and Churrito, died in Bolivia

- Description: Berney traveled in Africa and the Americas. In 1958, he presented a report of his travels at the French Language Circle in Lugano: Henry-Maurice Berney included in his report some curious anecdotes (...) about the difficulties that travelers face in the age of jet engines. While previously the Geneva-New York journey could be completed in just over six hours, it now takes at least three weeks to obtain a visa for the United States. And what about all the tricks used by border guards and customs officers in underdeveloped countries to squeeze bribes out of white travelers

- Description: A great many equestrian travelers have been inspired by the feats of those who rode before them. However, John Beard stands out as the only horseback traveler directly influenced by the legendary Buffalo Bill Cody. As a child, after visiting Cody's iconic Wild West show, Beard dreamed of experiencing the Wild West on horseback. It took over sixty years from seeing the flamboyant showman for Beard and his wife Lulu to embark on their dream journey. In 1948, riding a matched pair of horses, Black Diamond and Black Fairy, the Beards set off to traverse the Old Oregon Trail. Their 2'500-mile journey from Oregon to Missouri was a testament to endurance, braving weariness, thirst, hunger, hardship, and danger as they followed the path of their pioneer ancestors. Their adventure, richly documented with photographs, is captured in "Saddles East"

- Description: Giorgio Bettinelli, a precursor of Vespa enthusiasts, embarked on various adventures using this iconic scooter. A successful writer, he passionately narrated his exploits. In 1992, he started from Mentana (near Rome) to Saigon, traveling 24'000 kilometers in seven months, a journey described in his 1997 bestseller "In Vespa. Da Roma a Saigon." His second trip from Anchorage to Tierra del Fuego spanned 36'000 kilometers from 1994 to 1995. The third journey connected Melbourne to Cape Town, covering 52'000 km in exactly one year from September 1995 to 1996. His fourth, the Worldwide Odyssey, was a three-year global tour from October 1997 to May 2001, spanning 144'000 km from Tierra del Fuego to Tasmania. He detailed these journeys in "Brum Brum. 254'000 kilometers in Vespa," published in 2002 by Feltrinelli. In 2005, the same publisher released "Rhapsody In Black. In Vespa dall'Angola allo Yemen," covering his travels in Central and Southern Africa. His final journey took place in China, where he had relocated and married. Documented in "La Cina in Vespa," this trip occurred in 2006. Bettinelli passed away suddenly in Jinghong, China, on September 16, 2008, at the age of 53
