  • Description: Sjaak Lucassen is a Dutch long-distance motorcycle traveler renowned for his daring global expeditions. From 1995 to 1998, he logged about 160,000 km (100,000 miles) on a Honda Fireblade. Between 2001 and 2006, he circumnavigated the globe - covering 250,000 km (155,000 miles) - on a Yamaha YZF‑R1 nicknamed “Florentina”. In 2013, he rode from Barrow, Alaska to Key West, Florida, starting with a traversal over sea ice of the Beaufort Sea, towing a sledge. He estimates he’s spent nearly ten years of his life riding. Around 2015, he began building a custom R1 ("aRctic1") to attempt a solo ride to the North Pole under -40 °C conditions across polar ice
