  • Description: The first aerial circumnavigation of the world was a historic event that took place in 1924, when four Douglas World Cruiser aircraft from the United States Army Air Service completed an incredible journey around the globe. Departing from Seattle, the brave crews faced enormous challenges, flying over distances never before covered by aircraft. The route included stops in Alaska, Japan, Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East, Europe, and across the Atlantic, before returning to the United States. After 175 days and over 27'000 miles, only two of the four aircraft completed the journey
