La storia narra le vicende di Phileas Fogg, un ricco galantuomo londinese abitudinario, sedentario e riservato. Il 2 ottobre 1872 Fogg lascia la sua residenza di Saville Row e si reca al Reform Club. Come ogni giorno, alle undici e mezzo raggiunge la sede del club dopo aver percorso 575 passi.
