From Passport to Socks: The Checklist for a Worry-Free Departure

Departing for a vacation is one of those moments filled with excitement and anticipation, a wait that often accumulates a mix of emotions and frenzy within us. Amid this whirlwind of preparations, it's easy to forget something important. To avoid unpleasant surprises and to start off with peace of mind, it's better to rely on a checklist... Whether you're packing for a short getaway or a long journey, this list will ensure you have everything you need, allowing you to fully enjoy your adventure without stress and worries.

Before Departing

Before Booking

  1. Inform yourself about the political situation and safety of the destination.
  2. Check the weather conditions and the presence of any seasonal phenomena (temperatures, rainy season, hurricane season, etc.).
  3. Research the local culture and any special holidays that might affect your schedule.

After Booking

  1. Assess if and what vaccinations are needed.
  2. Check the entry and visa issuance regulations; ensure your identity documents are valid, also considering the remaining validity for the country you are visiting.
  3. If necessary, fill out the forms that allow entry into the country, within the indicated timeframes.
  4. Verify your insurance coverage, especially for medical emergencies.

A Few Weeks Before Departure

  1. If necessary, increase your credit card limit or better yet, obtain several cards to avoid balance issues; for certain countries, inform your bank of your destination to avoid potential security blocks.
  2. If possible, acquire a small amount of local currency; alternatively, bring a small amount to exchange upon arrival.
  3. Save a copy of official and travel documents on a secure online platform.
  4. Before departing, check for any strikes in the departure or arrival country.
  5. Save all digital support materials like maps, travel guides, apps, videos, music, ebooks on your devices; ensure offline access.
  6. If returning to a previously visited place, retrieve cards or local currency.

Just Before Departure!

  1. Proceed with online check-in.

During the Journey

  1. Stay calm even when the inevitable hiccups occur.
  2. Getting lost sometimes can be healthy, leading to fortuitous encounters and new experiences.
  3. Focusing on your surroundings is far better than experiencing everything through a cellphone screen: taking a few photos to keep a memory alive is one thing, spending the holiday clicking thousands of pictures and videos is quite another.

After Returning

  1. Save your images and videos on a secure platform: losing these memories is easier than you might think.
  2. Start thinking about your next destination!
